چکیده

This paper investigates single-machine coupled-task scheduling where each job has two tasks separated by an exact delay. The objective of this study is to schedule the tasks to minimize the makespan subject to a given job sequence. We introduce several intriguing properties of the fixed-job-sequence problem under study. While the complexity status of the studied problem remains open, an O(n) algorithm is proposed to construct a feasible schedule attaining the minimum makespan for a given permutation of 2n tasks abiding by the fixed-job-sequence constraint. We investigate several polynomially solvable cases of the fixed-job-sequence problem and present a complexity graph of the problem. 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

GENETIC AND TABU SEARCH ALGORITHMS FOR THE SINGLE MACHINE SCHEDULING PROBLEM WITH SEQUENCE-DEPENDENT SET-UP TIMES AND DETERIORATING JOBS

This paper introduces the effects of job deterioration and sequence dependent set- up time in a single machine scheduling problem. The considered optimization criterion is the minimization of the makespan (Cmax). For this purpose, after formulating the mathematical model, genetic and tabu search algorithms were developed for the problem. Since population diversity is a very important issue in ...

An Efficient Bi-objective Genetic Algorithm for the Single Batch-Processing Machine Scheduling Problem with Sequence Dependent Family Setup Time and Non-identical Job Sizes

This paper considers the problem of minimizing make-span and maximum tardiness simultaneously for scheduling jobs under non-identical job sizes, dynamic job arrivals, incompatible job families, and sequence-dependentfamily setup time on the single batch- processor, where split size of jobs is allowed between batches. At first, a new Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model is proposed for t...

Single Machine Scheduling Problem with Precedence Constraints and Deteriorating Jobs

This paper considers the single machine scheduling problem with precedence constraints and deteriorating jobs. A mathematical model based on binary integer programming (BIP) is developed. By these precedence constraints, jobs can not start before completion of its all predecessors. The represented model is in two steps, in step one the earliest starting time of each job is computed, then the re...

Optimum Aggregate Inventory for Scheduling Multi-product Single Machine System with Zero Setup Time

In this paper we adopt the common cycle approach to economic lot scheduling problem and minimize the maximum aggregate inventory. We allow the occurrence of the idle times between any two consecutive products and consider limited capital for investment in inventory. We assume the setup times are negligible. To achieve the optimal investment in inventory we first find the idle times which minimi...

An approximation algorithm and FPTAS for Tardy/Lost minimization with common due dates on a single machine

This paper addresses the Tardy/Lost penalty minimization with common due dates on a single machine. According to this performance measure, if the tardiness of a job exceeds a predefined value, the job will be lost and penalized by a fixed value. Initially, we present a 2-approximation algorithm and examine its worst case ratio bound. Then, a pseudo-polynomial dynamic programming algorithm is de...
